1977 Kawasaki KZ1000
Owner: Don T., Lorton, Virginia
COMMENTS: This motorcycle has been family owned for all of its life when it was bought new in 1977. After the bike sat for several years, the current owner decided to return it to stock condition & have it restored. To be removed was a front fork brace, gauge covers, engine guard & a cruise control lock. Stock mirrors, turn signals, handlebar clamps were added. A new Vance & Hines 4 into 1 exhaust system, K & N air filter & rear shocks were added. The horn & oil cooler were moved to their correct locations. It was upgraded with new Dyna ignition & modern blade-type fuse box. As with most bikes that sit for several years, it needed the usual: rebuild the carbs, new carb boots, rebuild the petcock/fuel valve, top end engine rebuild with review of transmission & clutch, shim valve adjustment, gasoline tank cleaning & sealing, new battery, tires, hoses, brakes, cables, spark plugs, etc. Cosmetics including polishing the engine covers & wheel rims, replace the seat cover, new chain guard, re-chome gasoline tank cap, and stainless engine bolts. The paint was done by another company. After the bike was running, a leak in the shifter was found and corrected. Now Don has a beautiful, reliable, as stock as possible vintage bike that won't be like all the others. This project took over 45 hours of labor.

Customer email dated May 16, 2010: The bike is running great. My brother (Mark) was down to visit and had the chance to ride it and admire how well it looked. Mark owned the bike longer than anyone in the family and really appreciates the work you put into it to get it running and looking like new.
